LA/OS-003 Tryvannshøgda

I hadn’t activated LA/OS-003 in 2018. Such important things have to be done, and therefore I activated the summit earlier today using my FT-716ND and linked dipole. It was a only a short activation, but nevertheless 12 QSOs from 10 DXCCs came in the log; all on 20 meter CW/SSB.

LA/OL-200 Segalstadsæterkampen

I visited LA/OL-200 Segalstadsæterkampen for the first time today. It is a very easy summit to activate. I parked at N 61° 27.845 E 010° 7.066, which is around 10-15 minutes away. At the summit it is plenty of opportunities to find a place to erect the antenna.

As usual I used a linked dipole and a FT-817ND.

All QSOs were on 20 meter. I started with SSB. The conditions were not great (as usual), but I worked 9 stations. I then QSYed to CW, and worked 5 more stations.

On my return, I had a nice eye-ball QSO with LA5WNA. He had also planned to activate the summit.

DXCCs: EA, HA, HB9, I, OK, UA.

LA/OF-001 Linnekleppen

Østfold County has only two SOTA summits. LA/OF-001 has been valid since May 1 2008, and LA/OF-002 since April 1 2014. The number of activations has been low; LA/OF-002 has only been activated once, and LA/OF-001 only four times. A reason for this could be geography. Østfold is a relatively flat area. Thus, the small number of summits likely implies that SOTA activations are little attractive for Østfold HAMs. Moreover, activators in Akershus likely prefer to drive north to summits giving more SOTA points per activation.

Enough said about that. I drove south to Linnekleppen earlier today. It was my first visit to the summit. It’s an easy summit to activate. From the parking lot at N 59 20.493, E 011 34.546, it is a 3.5 km walk to the summit. It’s said that the trail is marked with blue signs. However, they need to be refreshed. Nevertheless, it’s very easy to follow the trail.

At the summit there are several picnic tables and easy to erect an antenna. I guess it can be quite crowded in weekends, but on an early Tuesday afternoon, I was almost alone.

As usual, I used my FT-817ND and a linked dipole.

The HF conditions were fair with some QSB. I struggled with SSB, but I managed to have four QSOs in the log. I then started to work CW, and 17 stations were worked. Among them three S2S. All QSOs were on 20 meter. I did also try some calls on 2 meter, as usual with no luck.

PS If you have time, there are around 25 geocaches you can pick up.

LA/OL-184 Kvitberget

Nice, sunny weather, 19C, when I activated Kvitberget earlier today. The HF bands were also in good shape. In other words, an excellent day for a SOTA activation. I got 29 QSOs from 14 DXCC (1 S2S – thank you EA2IF).

LA/OL-181 Feforkampen

I had time left for one more summit today, and chose to activate Feforkampen. The weather and HF condition were still very good. The result was 27 QSOs from 8 DXCCs (3 S2S).

DXCC: DL, G, HB9, I, OK, ON, W, YO.

LA/OL-100 Valsfjellet

Valsfjellet was the first of today’s summits. The weather was very hiking-friendly, 13C, partly sunny, and little wind. Opposed to yesterday, the HF condition was very good. This resulted in 28 QSOs in the log from 16 DXCCs in a little while. Among them were 5 S2S.

DXCC: DL, EQ, F, GM, HB9, I, LY, OE, OH, OK, ON, PA. SP, SV, SV9, 9A.
