LA/OL-043 Buhammaren

I had the opportunity to visit Buhammeren before the end of the winter bonus. I operated on 20 and 30 meter. Excellent conditions and weather. In the end, I had 37 QSOs from 16 DXCCs.

LA/OL-043 Buhammaren

I visited LA/OL-043 Buhammaren on  March 30 just before the winter-bonus season ended. I had hoped that most of the snow had gone. It hadn’t. It was 50-70 cm with mostly rotten snow, so it was a pretty hard ascension.

As usual, I used my FT817ND and a linked dipole. The weather and HF conditions were fair, and in the end it was 21 QSOs from 10 DXCCs in the log; 13 on 40 meter, and 8 on 30 meter. Among them were 5 S2S, all on 30 meter.

LA/OL-043 Buhammaren

Three months since last activation (which ended in an accident), I was recovered, and it was thus time for a new activation. LA/OL-043 is an easily accessible summit, and the weather was beautiful; sunny and a temperature a little bit over the freezing point.

It was a “contest weekend”, so 20 meter was a bad idea for a QRP operation. However, it was no problem to operate on 30 and 17 meter.  In the end, 20 stations were in the log.

LA/OL-043 Buhammaren

LA/OL-043 was activated earlier today – for the first time using snowshoes. Beautiful weather and temperature around 8C made this to a pleasant stay at the summit.

I had planned to operate on both SSB and CW, and I started on SSB (after a self-spotting). Many minutes later and no QSOs, I checked the Solar-Terrestrial data on www.qrz.com, and it revealed that the conditions seemed to be poor and far from QRP friendly. I thus QSYed to the CW part. Conditions on 20 meter was indeed poor – around 30 minutes of calling did only result in 8 QSOs. However, 30 meter was in a much better shape (even though www.qrz.com didn’t indicate this…). 23 QSOs were in the log in relatively short time.

LA/OL-043 Buhammaren

After the activation of Hvalebykampen, I had time to visit LA/OL-043 once more. Due to the broken paddle connection cable, this activation also had to be a SSB-only activation.

I erected the linked dipole and started to call. In about 20 minutes 17 chasers were in the log (one S2S), no more chasers replied to my calls, and I went QRT.

LA/OL-043 Buhammaren

The spring has come, and I decided to activate LA/OL-043 when it still was winter season (and bonus points). Since I didn't know how much snow was left, I brought snow shoes with me. Fortunately, I didn't need them.

The Equipment used was FT-817 and MP-1, a well-performing combination. I started on 20 meter CW. The pile-up was huge  - as usual. In periods it was simply impossible to pick out any call signs in the QRM. After a while, 27 QSOs were achieved. Since it is CQ WPX conteston SSB this weekend, it was no reason to work SSB on a very crowded SSB-part of 20 meter. I therefore QSYed to 12 meter, and there worked 11 more QSOs on SSB and CW.

Finally and as usual I made calls on 2 meter and 70 cm. However, also as usual, no QSOs were obtained.

Buhammaren, LA/OL-043

I had an appointment in Gran in the afternoon on June 20. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to eave job just after lunch. Thus, it would also be time to activate a summit. Buhammaren (LA/OL-043) is easily reached, and was thus chosen.

15 QSOs were worked. DXCCs: DL, F, G, HA, OK, ON, S5.

PS. The photo is taken at Vesle Buhammaren which is around 200 meters south of the summit.

Buhammaren, LA/OL-043

Buhammaren was activated in a beautiful summer weather. For this activation, there were no doubts about the mode; CW. My 20 meter longwire (inverted L) was erected, and 20 QSOs were worked on 30 meter without any problems. I then QSYed to 20 meter and worked three more stations on SSB before I went QRT.
